Common + Friends in LA - CRAZY SHOW!

Last night I checked out the Common & Friends show at the Hollywood Palladium. The show was phenomenal. One act after onother came out and performed classic records. The crowd was ALL IN on every last one..from De La Soul's "My Buddy", to Queen Latifah's "U-N-I-T-Y" to Mos Def's "UMI" to Heavy D's "Nothin but Love" to Luda's "Throw dem Bows", to Nas "The World is Yours"...to everything Common...YOU GET THE POINT. BANANA's! What I loved was how one act segued into the next with joint group records as the bridge between solo performances...the show flowed from one performance into the next and the energy never faltered. Congratulations Commonground for a job well done!

DJ Cassidy's Birthday Party @ The NY Public Library

Last night was DJ Cassidy's 28th birthday party in NYC. He locked down the New York Public Library (yes, the library) and had a Belvedere open bar and an all white decor... let's just say my head hurts today :(
Bobby Brown & Rakim performed which was dope but just like last year when KRS-1 wouldn't get off the damn stage I think Rakim should have down one or two joints and kept it moving. He's a legend but he really doesn't have that many CLUB/PARTY joints! Bobby Brown had the party poppin though. Here's the run down of who was there... Nas, Jay-Z, Kloe Kardashian, Adrienne Bailon, Jaslene Gonzales, Lyor Cohen, Melinda Williams, Caridee (Next top model), DJ Envy, Dougie Fresh, Estelle, Funk Flex & many others. Fun Times. Nas Christmas Show at the Hammerstein

Last night for the 2nd year in a row, my lovely friend Cap and I went to see what seems to be Nas' annual Holiday show. Always the classics everyone loves...combined with the new records...the show is always exactly what any Nas fan wants to see...just him and his mic.
Although this year he threw in some pyro effects..flames and smoke here and there...a bit random..as you wouldn't quite expect Vegas effects at a Nas show...but I guess they were trying something new?? also special appearances from Busta, AZ and the Bravehearts...spotted on the side of the stage... I LOVE HIP HOP.

the sound isn't the best...but you can get the idea..swagger is on FULL BLAST..and we love it.

Nas week....

So Nas has been on his grizzly with the promo run. His album dropped this past Tues...and I'm diggin it. It's been a long relationship...me and Nas...as a New Yorker and hip hop lover, I was a die hard fan of Illmatic...but the relationship has been a bit shaky, and on and off since. I have to say this album is SOLID. He has embraced the fact that he has something to say that goes beyond jewelery,cars and chicks...and seems like he's past deliberating whether he wants to take the fluff route or whether he wants to just do him...which is what he does best (letting you into his head). It's evident that he has just gone ahead and DONE him...so he gets the thumbs UP on this one. I think timing wise it's really good, bc he is questioning a lot about the world around us on this album...and although you may not agree with his views, he will create dialogue as he did with his "hip Hop is dead" statement. With the war going on and the state of the economy being what it is...people are looking more closeley at the govt and decisions being made...people aren't as willing to be led blindly...so as they say timing is everything...and he was on it this time around...

Wed night I went to Cabana where the Nas album release party took place. I didnt realize it was also an ESPY award after-party. I know there are tons of women in LA, but I was kind of like...damn Nas has a LOT of female fans (lookin a lot like groupies though)..but then I was informed that it was the athelete crowd...so that explained the THIRST that was in the air.
The party was cool...saw some folks in the bldg (or I should say plaza..it was outdoors)...Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, Pacific Division, Cool Kids..was good to see some of my NY folk in LA...Buttaman and Ethiopia...a bunch of tall dudes aka athletes (I'm bad at recognizing them in the dark)...sorrry..cant name drop on that one...where's Clari when ya need her!?!



Anyway...Night # 2...went to the Zune mansion to see a private Nas performance...Green Lantern was on the 1 and 2's. This crowd was kind of a combo of industry and fans...saw some more of my peoples...Pacific Divison again, Coodie (video director)and some others...
the show was dope...was good to see the performance in that intimate setting...he of course did "Aint Hard To Tell", "One Love", some other classics and brought it to "Hero" (which I like) and "Breathe" off of the current album.
So yeah that was my Nas run...good stuff..

Tonight is his Myspace performance at the Roxy, which I'm sure will be dope..but I think I've had my dose of Nas for the week...!

Vibe Party feat. JEEZY

Wednesday night I finally decided it was time for me to hit the streets and go do my "networking" thing. Vibe threw a party @ ONO (@ the Gansevoort) in honor of Jeezy's cover. The venue is really hot but its outdoors and it was about a bizzzzzillion degrees due to humidity. It was actually funny watching all the girls try to "stay sexy" because g-d knows i was SWEATING. Anyway enough about the heat... the party was a good look... people came out to support like Jermaine Dupri, Nas, Fab, DJ Envy, DJ Clue, T.I (i didnt see him) and DJ Cassidy spun. It was nice catching up with some of the industry friends but unfortunately i forgot a camera :( soooo Getty images it is, ha!

BET Rounds...First Stop...BMI Brunch

I'm a little late talking about my BET rounds...but it's hard to stop and post when I'm running around working and attending the lineup of events going on! My first stop was the BMI brunch...where people came through to mix, mingle, grub and get their mimosa on! Some went as far as to start downing patron at a sunday brunch!! But I guess for some it's never too early to start tha par-tay!!
